CHANCE LANE . bio
i have been a commercial artist for nearly 30 years, beginning my professional career in the field of animation & special effects for film, t.v. & commercials. i've worked as a traditional efx animator, prop builder, cel painter, illustrator, computer graphics artist, set designer and all-around helpful art person (real title) for such inventive companies as:
COLOSSAL PICTURES, wildbrain, klasky csupo, industrial light & magic,
SKELLINGTON PRODUCTIONS, WARNER BROTHERS & DREAMWORKS.
i've also worked as a regional artist for TRADER JOE'S, designing & creating more than 100 illustrated boards in chalk pastel, dozens of painted murals and numerous 3D displays of paper mache, cork, wood, foam core & mosaIC.
increasing my creative repertoire is an ongoing exploration, and my interests constantly vary. from the precision of science illustration, the physical act of carving wood, the illusion of trompe l'oeil, the ambiance of lighting, the versatility of metalwork, the fine detail of jewelry, the hands covered with clay, the immediacy of photography, the hunt for sea glass - and the smell of a hot glue gun - i want to play with all of it.
my creative inclinations are continually shaped by the natural world that i see outside my door and on my travels. only in recent years did i begin to create a body of independent paintings separate from my commercial work. after a few years of painting for exhibition i have chosen to head in a different artistic direction with no idea what will transpire.
